Srila Prabhupada's Vision
“These uneducated cowherd
women, without any town life, they are Krsna’s best friends. Unsophisticated, no education, but love
intense—that is perfect. That attracted Krsna more. Krsna is so much attached to Vrndavana
that He goes nowhere. Why is that? They
are not educated girls, up-to-date fashion; they're
crude. But as soon as there
was blowing of the flute, immediately they began to run towards Krsna. One was taking care of children, another was engaged in boiling milk,
and one was even lying down with
her husband. Still, immediately... Very crude, unsophisticated, but intense
love for Krsna—that is Vrndavana. We want to introduce that this farm project means intense love for
Krsna. And other things—very simple:
little milk, little food grain, little vegetable, that’s all. And that is very
nice. If you get fresh vegetable, fresh milk, and food grain, what do you want
more? And from milk you can prepare so many nice preparations, unlimited
number, all very palatable, sweet. This civilization we want to introduce, not
rascal so-called civilization and become implicated in this cycle of birth and
death.”— Room conversation,
Bhuvaneswara, 1/31/77

Gaura-Purnima Festival Report
Over 120 guests and devotees attended the 2005 Gaura-Purnima Festival on Friday evening, March 25. The festival began with a Maha-Abhishek in which all the guests had the opportunity to bathe the Deity form of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Accompanied by ecstatic kirtan, they poured Ganges water, sugar water, milk, yogurt, rosewater and many other pure and precious substances over the Deity. Finally the Deity was covered in sacred tilak (pure Ganges clay), cleaned and polished prior to being dressed in a new outfit.
This issue's masthead above shows the beautiful candlelit altar panorama that greeted the eager worshipers when the curtain opened to reveal Their Lordships dressed in Their new Gaura-Purnima outfits. The beautiful Gaura-arati kirtan song led by His Grace Gaura-Krsna das Prabhu had all the devotees dancing and jumping ecstatically together in the temple room.
After arati, the devotees relished opening Lord Gauracandra's birthday presents. Many gorgeous presentations of costume jewelry, crystal lotuses, incense, fine metalware and silk cloths brought from India were offered to the Lord by the assembled devotees. Then the donors for the Gaura-Purnima Deity outfits were given special appreciations, including a gift of decoration prasadam. New Talavan temple president, His Grace Yogindra-Vandana das Adhikari, offered a beautiful appreciation for the devotional service of the devotees.
The New Talavan Gurukula students performed a play about young Lord Caitanya's taking the opffering of a brahmana guest at His parents' home. The young students then recited 13 slokas from the Brahma-samhita from memory. Finally a short class on the appearance of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was presented by New Talavan Congregational Services Minister, His Grace Dasanudas Prabhu.
